I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist (Eye Surgeon).

My specific interest within this specialty are small incision cataract surgery and refractive surgery.

I currently practice at 3 sites:

(a) My NHS base hospital is the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan where I am a Consultant to the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust.

(b) I perform laser refractive surgery (LASIK, LASEK and PRK) at Visualase Laser Clinic in Bolton

(c) I perform Lens Exchange surgery at Fulwood Hospital in Preston. This private hospital is part of the Capio Healthcare Group

In the past I have also worked as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Palmerston North Hospital in New Zealand.

Background

My childhood and school days were spend in the Cotswolds around Nailsworth, South Gloucestershire. My medical training was at Birmingham University where I won the Undergraduate Prize for Ophthalmology.

Following junior training posts in the south of England my higher surgical training was undertaken at The Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester, UK. This included a secondment to The Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide, South Australia for specialist training in diseases of the ocular surface and cornea.

I am also a qualified optometrist in the UK and registered as such in Australia and New Zealand.

I have produced a book for those working in ophthalmic primary care entitled. "Ocular Disorders. A series of Case Studies" ISBN: 01-9541272-1-8. Published by The Association of Optometrists, August 2005.

My interests outside medicine include railway history and preservation, and artefacts of the 1950's era. At home I have a number of small items of railway rolling stock, including a restored 1956 ex BR guards van; also a 1955 Green Goddess fire engine.
